Hyogo & Kobe (Prefecture & City)

Hyogo & Kobe (Prefecture & City) image

The Hyogo–Kobe region combines a diverse industrial base with rich natural surroundings and is often described as a “microcosm of Japan.” Leveraging this diversity as a strength, the region offers a unique environment where a vibrant urban landscape—surrounded by mountains and the sea—coexists with an internationally oriented business environment.
A wide range of industries are concentrated in the prefecture, including the Kobe Biomedical Innovation Cluster—one of the largest biomedical clusters in Japan—as well as next-generation energy, advanced manufacturing, and food-related industries. This robust industrial base, together with the expertise of leading research institutions and universities, supports the real-world implementation of innovative technologies.
Building on these strengths, Hyogo Prefecture and the City of Kobe are working together to develop a strong startup ecosystem through collaboration among industry, government, academia, and finance. By partnering with global accelerators, providing pioneering demonstration opportunities, and offering tailored hands-on support, the region is creating an environment where entrepreneurs from Japan and around the world can thrive.
Looking ahead, the region aims to further accelerate innovation that addresses societal challenges through science and technology and to continue developing as a hub for startups expanding onto the global stage.
